As I was doing a little "fall cleaning" of the closet, I came upon a dress that no longer fits me. It was just so pretty though... I couldn't bear to throw it out. It was an empire waist dress with a lovely beaded band around the top. So today I tried my hand at a little "redesign on a dime" :)
First I tried it on, with the part that normally goes underneath the chest, around my waist- to see if it would even work. It did! I was thrilled.
Next, I opened up the darts in the lining of the dress with my seam ripper.
Then I cut off the top portion of the dress with my trusty pink scissors.
Next, I hand sewed with a whipstitch the upper part of the fabric onto the inside of the beaded band.
Ta Da! A new tea length skirt... I'm thinking perfect for my husband's office Christmas party.

Tres chic! I did the same with a pink and black dress a couple of weeks ago. I love not having to give away or throw out clothes that don't fit anymore.
You are so creative! I wish I was...then I could figure out what to do with all the things that don't fit me now;-)
That is sooo beautiful! What a success! And I agree...it would be *perfect* for a Christmas party...perhaps with a black sweater? You'll have to share pictures!!
You are too clever by half.
Wow! You are very creative...great job. The skirt is beautiful!
How clever! I just love your creativity. Have a great weekend!
That looks like the sort of thing I'd try and it would turn out awful! ;)
You did a great job though! Very lovely. :)
Absolutely gorgeous! I would definitely wear that with a big, beautiful smile!
