A very worthy read

This is a long article, but very worth your time in my opinion. I too have been utterly shocked by the toys of some 5 year olds these days. My husband and I yesterday took a walk down the toy aisle to try and find a board game. We were bombarded by images of dolls that I can't imagine a mother with sense even contemplating buying her daughter. Harsh, I know, but these dolls are TRULY shocking. They would make any decent grown woman blush.

finally, the 'duvet skirt'

I finally got a picture of the skirt! Silly but true story: I wanted desperately to wear it to church today, but I remembered too late that I hadn't finished sewing the elastic in the waist band together. I couldn't resist wearing it though... so I safety pinned it! No one was the wiser...

WIFD saturday

I decided to do a bit more of an "action shot" today! Here's me making some brownies. I'm wearing my stretchy LL Bean knit skirt. Its just about as comfortable as a skirt can get.

Don't worry, shortly after I post this, I'll start cleaning that messy kitchen! :)
Mmmm... I can already smell the brownies baking.

It may not feel like fall, but I'll wear my fall clothes

In my ever present need to make it feel like "fall" :) I wore my corduroy skirt today. I made this in the style of the Tznius wrap skirts- with lots of extra wrap to prevent wind issues. I've always liked their skirts, but ouch, they're so pricey. I bought this material on clearance 80% off last March or so. Yes, so I've wanted to wear this skirt since March. :)

And by popular demand, haw haw... here is the latest project. I pretty much always have some sort of knitting or crochet project in the works- its wonderful to have when you want to relax without feeling unproductive. This one's been slow going since I'm new at crochet. Its the "Very Easy Ripple Shawl". When I saw "very easy" in the title, I knew it was the one for me! I taught myself the double crochet from the lion brand website- its actually very helpful!

I realize now from looking at the picture on the site, the little holes aren't supposed to waffle back and forth like mine do. But... I don't know WHY mine waffle back and forth, so I can't really fix it, and well, hmph, I kinda like it. :)

WIFD thursday!

I didn't want to wait for hubby to come home from work for today's picture, so my picture was carefully taken with the self timer. :)

I'm working on the latest crochet project- I'll post about that later :) and I'm wearing a blue skirt I made a while back. Its so toasty here today, I can hardly believe its almost October! I've got to go check the forecast and hope for a cold front. It may just be me being silly, but honestly this September felt hotter than June! Lol.

No more delinquency!

Well, I missed out on day two and three of the week in feminine dress! My apologies :) The last two days have left me exhausted and worn out! But today was much more relaxed- a happy day to be sure. Here's me "gazing" out over our balcony...

Twisting up my hair like this is one of the simplest and best ways I have come up with to 'not have a ponytail or plain bun'.

The time has come again!

The sewing forum I'm a member of does a seasonal week in feminine dress about four times a year. Its a wonderful way to show how you can do anything dressed femininely and beautifully for the Lord! :) I'll be sharing throughout the week, and anyone else who wants to participate, let me know and I'll link you!

Here's some links if you'd like to learn more about it:

Ladies Against Feminism

My favorite, Mrs. Chancey's Week in Feminine Dress

Another favorite, The Poston Ladies

Trina and her sisters are participating, too!

Here's me today, after church. I'll try to get a more "full length shot" on the other days :)

Dress Redesign

As I was doing a little "fall cleaning" of the closet, I came upon a dress that no longer fits me. It was just so pretty though... I couldn't bear to throw it out. It was an empire waist dress with a lovely beaded band around the top. So today I tried my hand at a little "redesign on a dime" :)

First I tried it on, with the part that normally goes underneath the chest, around my waist- to see if it would even work. It did! I was thrilled.
Next, I opened up the darts in the lining of the dress with my seam ripper.

Then I cut off the top portion of the dress with my trusty pink scissors.

Next, I hand sewed with a whipstitch the upper part of the fabric onto the inside of the beaded band.
Ta Da! A new tea length skirt... I'm thinking perfect for my husband's office Christmas party.

A new little project!

Using the scraps from the "duvet skirt", some leftover quilted fabric from a year or two ago, and some leftover trimming...

And a little sunglasses case to match.

Roses on the inside!

Perfect for wintery trips to the library :)

This week's Memory Scripture :)

"And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"
Luke 11: 9-13

Surely?? :)

I saw this linked off of Girl Talk:

Well, Now. That's certainly a way to be convicted (in the *sweetest* way possible!) about memorizing scripture! If she can do it... well, I'd venture to say, I have no excuse. :)

A fun website!

I have had a great time searching through the free patterns here.
I have found myself desperately wishing I was a better knitter, or crochet-er. :) So on this note, I have reserved a book at the library on crochet. My "someday, someday" project will have to be this one... or this one.
Must... Learn... Quickly. Tee hee. Rachel, my darling, won't you come to San Antonio and teach me? :-D You're the only one I know with the skills to complete these!

Hmmm...

Well, I tried the "home remedy" for removing rust stains- Lemons and Salt.

No, it did not work. Now... I'm thinking this is maybe because I have one of those "plastic one piece" type tubs. Oh well, it really made my whole bathroom smell fantastic, rust stain removal or not :) I ended up rubbing lemon juice on a few surfaces and then rinsing it off- it was clean and smelled just lovely in there! :)

I'm just so excited

I've been looking at this pattern for so long! Thinking... should I buy it? Yes! I would think... wait No, it's too expensive. Oh but its lovely! No, too much money.

Well, after about six months of this, I buckled. And bought it :) And now I'm so excited about it coming in the mail!

Nothing like finishing at the last minute...

I literally finished this moments before we walked out the door! But I finished in enough time to have hubby snap this quick "action shot". I'm excited about two things:
1. I love this shawl- its so warm and fuzzy, perfect for winter.
2. I actually finished a knitting project in less than several months. I'm so happy to have a finished project! Now I just need to decide what to do next... :)

And my darling brought me these. "Just because"... What a sweetie pie.

Some may call it late summer...

But I'll call it "Early Fall" :)
I spent a bit of time decorating for fall here today- I just love this time of year.
Here's our new fall mantle...

Another little touch...

And finally, whats been taking up most of my crafting time...

I am hurriedly trying to finish this before tomorrow night. We'll see if I can get it done in time!!! As for now... I'm off to knit. Alot. Quickly. :)

Back from the Beach!

We have returned. It was a wonderful trip! I am very thankful we were able to go, even though my husband had to come back early to work. We saw tons of teeny tiny frogs, several dolphins, and even a big storm on the beach. Tragically, I didn't take any pictures! This is one of TWO I took with us in it- and it's terribly unflattering. Well, I still put it up :) I was able to get alot of knitting done- I'm almost there! Just one more skein to go! (On a side note... how is that word pronounced??) Also, I learned it is possible to climb a ladder- on a moving boat- at night- in an ankle length skirt. Tee hee.
